Mission Statement

Alaskans for Open Meetings mission is to assure that the constitutional rights of free assembly, and the statutory requirement of government to conduct public affairs in open meetings where the right of the public to be present and to be heard and to question government decisions is not abridged.

Resolution

Be it Resolved:  That, whereas the mayor and assembly of the Municipality of Anchorage have, under the guise of necessary emergency actions, undertaken to abridge the public’s civil rights and have engaged in a number of both unwise and illegal decisions.

Therefore this group will file suit to vacate all decisions made under the patently false premise that they were driven by the need to address “the Emergency”.  

Examples:

1.  Acquisition of real-estate for “the homeless”

1a       The decision for the acquisition of various properties in Anchorage for the purposes of housing, treating and rehabilitating “the homeless”·       

1b      The decision to utilize Federal Cares Act funding for the purpose of acquiring the above referenced properties.       

1c        The decision to reject the opinion of the IG that such a use of funds would be illegal.     

1d        The decision to seek a contrary opinion from the very bureaucrats whom the IG is charged with overseeing from both a legal and ethical standard.      

1e        The failure to provide a true accounting of the ongoing costs and operating expenses of the new bureaucracy.       

2.  The establishment of a new position of an “equity officer”

3.  And, any other ordinances passed by the assembly during this time period

These are not issues which should be considered as either right or left on the political spectrum, but as sacred to those who believe in the protections that fair and balanced laws provide for everyone’s rights.
